Expedition

Where the map ends.

Antarctica, the Arctic, the Galápagos. Expedition cruising is not a bigger cruise — it is a different way of traveling entirely. Zodiacs, scientists, and landings that most people only read about.

On Antarctica: the continent has no tourism authority. Instead, the industry governs itself through IAATO — the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators — which sets binding rules on landing numbers, wildlife distances, and environmental conduct. We book Antarctica only with operators that abide by IAATO guidelines. It is the difference between visiting a wilderness and damaging one.

What’s different

Expedition is not a cruise.

The landings

Zodiacs, not gangways

You go ashore by inflatable boat, in a parka, onto beaches that have no dock, no town, and sometimes no name on your map. A penguin colony does not care about your itinerary.

The people

Scientists, not entertainers

Expedition teams are glaciologists, marine biologists, historians. The evening program is a lecture on what you saw that day, delivered by someone who studies it for a living.

The pace

Weather decides

Expedition itineraries flex with ice and sea conditions — a captain may change the plan at dawn to chase better light or calmer water. The schedule is a suggestion. This is the point.

Curated for expeditions

The ships we trust.

Expedition capacity is small and sells far ahead. These are the lines we curate from — exact sailings confirmed at quoting.

Seabourn · expedition-capable

Seabourn Ovation

Seabourn’s expedition pedigree runs deep — purpose-built polar ships in the fleet, all-suite comfort, and a guest count that keeps landings intimate. The refined way into remote water.

The polar specialists

Antarctica and the Arctic

A small number of operators sail the White Continent and the high Arctic with IAATO standing, polar-class hulls, and expedition teams. We place you with the right one for your route and budget.

The islands

The Galápagos

Small yachts and expedition vessels, naturalist guides by law, islands that shaped a theory of evolution. Availability is tightly controlled — book a year out.

Questions

Expedition, explained.

The International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators. Because Antarctica belongs to no country, responsible operators created their own binding standards — how many people may land at once, how close you may stand to wildlife, how waste and fuel are handled. Operators outside IAATO are not bound by any of it. We do not book them.

Reasonably, yes — and honestly assessed. Zodiac transfers and beach landings ask more of you than a gangway. Most expedition lines grade their outings by difficulty, and we match you to the right one before you commit.

Earlier than you think. Antarctic seasons run November to March with a small fleet; the best cabins and routes are typically gone a year ahead. If a polar season is on your list, the conversation starts now.

Expedition inquiry

The wild places deserve a real conversation.

Expedition travel rewards expertise more than any other kind of voyage. Tell us where you are drawn, and we will tell you honestly how to get there.
